The popular trout-fishing lake, which was closed May 3 only days after it was opened for the fishing season April 28 remains closed to recreational use while the 410-acre state park around it stays open.

The level of anatoxin-a, a potent and quick-acting nerve poison, was measured at 70.0 micrograms per liter in Anderson Lake last week.

The safety threshold for the toxin is 1 microgram per liter.

The week before, the level was 1.52, so the new results of tests on samples taken last Monday which were announced late last week showed an increase of 46.6 times.

A blue-green algae outbreak last year prompted a warning not to eat lakes fish unless they were gutted and gilled.

But that advice has been lifted because of a drop in algae levels.

A warning against eating prawns, mussels and crabs caught in the lakes remains in place.

Dale Sumner from the Lakes Entrance Fishermen's Co-operative says fishers have had to gut and gill their catches before they can be sold.

He says the lifting of restrictions is great news for the local industry.

"It will be a relief to the fishermen working on the lakes," Mr Sumner said.

"It will also ha

Blackout to kill off dinoflagellates - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

I believe my tank is suffering from an outbreak of this lovely stuff, I have always had small patches of what I thought was red slime algae which I just siphoned out weekly. It was never really a problem until the past week when my Seachem Seagel passed its expiry date. Suddenly the algae spread like mad and is a dirty brown with tons of bubbles in it, it is even covering the glass at a rather ridiculous rate. I have replaced the Seagel and have tried siphoning and water changes with no luck at all, the stuff is just back within hours of the lights coming back on.

So I'm thinking of emba
